If you have been praying for someone you love and you cannot see any evidence that anything is changing, then this is your dose of hope today.
Perhaps there is no communication. Perhaps there is a wall between you. Perhaps the relationship has been broken by hurt, betrayal, divorce, abandonment, pride, rebellion, disappointment, or years of distance. Maybe you've prayed until you don't know what else to pray.
Maybe you've wondered:
"Lord, are You doing anything?"
"Can You even reach them at this point?"
"How can you turn their heart? It’s so hardened Lord.”
I want to remind you of the God you are praying to.
He is the God of all flesh, and nothing, I mean absolutely nothing is too difficult for Him. (Jeremiah 32:27)
Psalm 107 gives us a glimpse into what God can do when someone has wandered far from Him.
Psalm 107:10 –There were those who dwelt in darkness and in the shadow of death, prisoners in misery and chains. Psalm 107:11 says they had rebelled against the words of God and rejected the counsel of the Most High. Sin, disobedience, rebellion, selfish living, ungodly living, unholy living will always lead you to misery. It’s a dark world outside of God’s Will.
AND THEN something happened. They came to the end of themselves. Verse 12, They were humbled by God. They stumbled as part of God’s strategy to bring them to the end of themselves. We see this in the story of the prodigal son in Luke 15:11-24.
Psalm 107:13 says, "Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and He delivered them from their distress." Catch that! After God Himself humbled them, (Zechariah 4:6) THEN they cried out. There is a process in the return of one who turned to sin, disobeyed and rebelled against God’s words. They must come to the end of themselves and into surrender to Him for true heart change and transformation.
I encourage you to never underestimate what God can do in a heart when you cannot see what He is doing. You may not be able to talk to them.
You may not know where they are spiritually. You may not know what is happening in their heart. But God does. You cannot reach them, but God can. You cannot see into their heart, but God can. You cannot orchestrate their circumstances, but God can.
I often hear many say God will not force His will. That is partly true, but I have learned as the Lord has shown me repeatedly that He does know how to break the will of the lost sheep. We see this in Luke 15:11-24. He was not forced to stay but he was allowed to only go so far as the Lord knew what it would eventually take to cause him to stumble and become humbled in that pig pen. So, you cannot make them surrender, but God knows exactly how to draw them to Himself. And sometimes God allows a person to come to the absolute end of their own strength, and the end of themselves so that they finally recognize their need for Him.
Psalm 107:12 says they "stumbled, and there was none to help."
That doesn't mean God had abandoned them. It means that the people and things they had depended upon could no longer rescue them. He stripped them of those who supported their sin. He removed everyone that had any resource to help them out. They needed rescued but they only had One option. And then they cried out to the Lord.
And He saved them. Family, the Lord will rescue them for you to!
I pray you keep hoping because when you place your hope in God, you will never discover in the end that you trusted someone who wasn’t there, didn’t love you, or couldn’t be trusted. Romans 5:5
